2012 Honda classic Volunteer Committee Descriptions

- Admissions (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Ticket sales and credential checking at tournament entrances. Issue proper credentials to members of allied organizations.
Tues.-Sun. - Caddies (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Register the professional caddies, maintain the caddie area, distribute and collect caddie bibs and towels.
Sun.-Sun. - Cart Control (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Maintain and distribute golf carts, incl. charging/ preparation of carts for the next day.
Mon.-Sun. - Child Care (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Assist the PGA TOUR staff in providing childcare for the children of the players. Background checks required.
Tues.-Sun. - Communications (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Answer incoming telephone calls, provide information, direct calls to other areas. Organize and control radios and cellular telephones incl. check-out, check-in, and charging.
Mon.-Sun. - Corporate Display (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Assist in set up and delivery of sponsors items and equipment to vendor tents. After completion of tournament, assist vendors with removal of items. This is an outdoors position which requires some heavy lifting. Only 4-5 volunteers needed.
Tues.-Sun. - Courtesy Check (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Maintain checkpoint for spectators’ cellphones, pagers, cameras, handbags. Log item and provide ticket to spectators to retrieve items upon exit.
Tues.-Sun. - Hospitality (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Assist as hosts for sponsors/guests; direct all guests to their correct locations. Control access to hospitality areas by verifying proper credentials, maintain noise control. Maintain Hospitality Will Call.
Wed.-Sun. - Locker Room (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Assist players in locker room to help ensure their needs are met. Assist in delivering all shipped items to locker room, stock coolers, etc.
Sun.-Sun. - Leaderboard & Scoreboard (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Post scores of the leaders on the 18th Hole Leaderboard and assist the Scoreboard calligrapher.
Thurs.-Sun. - Marshals (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Provide spectator control along all golf course tee boxes, fairways, crosswalks, and greens. Spot and protect players’ balls that are outside the ropes. Maintain quiet during a player’s stroke. Prevent unauthorized photography. Escort players from the green to the next tee. Assist with course evacuation if needed. Work directly with Mobile Device Task Force to ensure compliance with cell phone rules, advise spectators of designated cell phone areas that are available throughout the course, and contact MDTF team member should their assistance be necessary. (Marshals will NOT confiscate cell phones, but will kindly remind spectators to keep phones on silent, use them in designated areas, no photography, etc.)
Mon.-Sun. Greatest needs are Thurs.-Sun. - Advance Marshals (POSITIONS FILLED):
- (formerly marshal services/security) Assigned to a group of players and accompany them for the entire eighteen holes. Walk ahead of the players to ensure access to tee boxes, cross walks, and green exits are properly manned by hole marshals and there is nothing that impedes access to these areas. Also marshaling the transition areas from 18th green to 1st tee and 9th green to 10th. Assist with course evacuation as needed. Must be able to walk eighteen holes.
Mon.-Sun. Greatest needs are Wed.-Sun. - Mobile Device Task Force (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Ensure that spectators are aware of cell phone policy and direct them to place/receive calls in designated cell phone zones. Approach patrons who disrupt play with a mobile device and provide them a claim check to retrieve their device at courtesy check upon their departure. Must be able to walk or stand for long periods and be diplomatic when approaching spectators. Will work closely with marshals/advance marshals. Wed. - Sun.

- Practice Facilities (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Maintain spectator control and assist players at the tournament practice range and putting green. Limited positions available.
Sun.-Sun. - Pro-Ams (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Greet, register, provide information to amateur contestants. Assist with amateur golf bags. Assemble and distribute gift packages to amateurs. Assist with the verification of handicaps and scoring.
Sun.-Wed. - Product Control & Distribution (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Receive, control, distribute pairing sheets, programs, and on course refreshments for use by the players. Receive, distribute supplies for vendors and tournament employees.
Mon.-Sun. - Resident Shuttle (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Provide transportation to/from tournament for PGA National residents. Drive mini-vans and/or small passenger vans to designated pickup areas within PGA National. Valid driver license required.
Thurs.-Sun. - Shotlink Lasers (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Assist at stations on every hole in the fairway and at the green to track the location of each player's ball using a laser sighting device. Easy to follow instructions will be provided.
Thurs.-Sun. plus hands on practice Wed. - Spectator Information (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Answer questions, direct spectators and hospitality patrons, and provide general information.
Wed.-Sun. - Standard Bearers (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Walk with each group of golfers for the entire round and display their scores in relation to par on a Scoring Standard. This position is a great opportunity for teenagers or parents & children. For the "walk with a parent" program, only one child per parent/guardian please.

- Tournament Office (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Beginning three weeks prior to the event, support tournament staff by answering phones, assembling invitations, mailing tickets, and various office duties.
Assistance needed beginning mid-January. Only 4-5 volunteers needed. - Transportation (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Inventory/distribution of vehicles to PGA TOUR players and special guests. Includes airport pick up/drop off for players, shuttle transportation for volunteers from Volunteer Parking to Volunteer HQ. Some assistance needed in January to help procure vehicles. Then, Sat. 2/25-Mon. 3/5. Valid driver license required.
- TV Liason (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Provide on course assistance to both the Television Network and Satellite Radio. Must be able to walk a minimum of 9 holes.
Thurs.-Sun. - Volunteer Headquarters (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Maintain volunteer headquarters in the hotel, provide information and set up/clean up for food/beverages, stock drink coolers, distribute and collect lunch chits.
Mon.-Sun., possibly Mon, 3/5 - Uniform Distribution (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Distribute volunteer uniforms during advance week. Sell additional shirts as available. Assist in producing volunteer badges. Also, assistance is needed during tournament week for uniform sales, located in Volunteer Headquarters. May require some early morning hours.
2/22-2/25 and tournament week. - Walking Scorers (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Walk with a group of players during the Pro-Am and Tournament rounds, entering stroke, scoring, and statistical information into a hand held device.
Wed. required for new walking scorer volunteers.
Wed.-Sun. - Will Call (POSITIONS FILLED):
- Serve as a distribution center at an off-site location for credentials and passes left for guests of Players, Officials, Hospitality Sponsors, PGA TOUR Staff, and members of the Media.
Tues.-Sun. - * RESTRICTED - Due to the limited number of volunteers required for this committee, only those who have worked on this committee at a previous Honda Classic, or have talked with the Committee Chairperson directly can sign up for restricted committees.
