KIDS LOOK FORWARD TO SPECIAL EVENTS AT HONDA CLASSIC
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL - The 2011 Honda Classic will once again have an extensive line-up of activities for kids including a themed Family Day on Saturday that will include fireworks and a nighttime dance party with a DJ, a special ticket with lanyard designed for kids by a kids contest winner, special seating in two high-profile areas of the tournament, an autograph zone by the 18th green, a Tuesday Junior Golf Clinic and more.
Tire Kingdom / Yokohama Family Day will be Saturday March 5. The first 1000 kids who attend that day will receive a giant golf ball and marker for autographs, which they can obtain all weekend at the Children's Hospital at St. Mary's Autograph Zone behind the 18th green. There also is special seating for kids at the Kids Zones at the 17th and 18th greens.
For kids who prefer to stay closer to the clubhouse on Family Day, the Cypress Financial - Met Life Kids Club will be managed by The Learning Experience from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday. The Learning Experience® (TLE) Child Development Center, a premier childcare provider, has been named the official childcare provider for this year's Honda Classic and will provide kids three and older with a safe environment to enjoy a day of supervised activities. Parents are welcome to join the fun while their children participate in spin art, face painting, airbrush tattoos, balloon art, craft projects, science projects plus more or they can choose to enjoy the rest of what the Honda Classic has to offer.
The Classic Kids Dance Party, hosted by a DJ, will run from 6-8 p.m. The Tire Kingdom / Yokohama Fireworks Spectacular, which also will take place on Friday, will kick off at 6:30 p.m.
But Saturday is not the only day kids will be kings at The Honda.
On Tuesday, the 4 p.m. Junior Clinic will feature PGA TOUR players as well as The Dennis Walters Golf Show, starring the trick shot artist who has become a fixture of Honda week along with his dog assistant Bucky. More than 400 kids are expected to attend.
And kids can get swing instruction and putt on a practice green at the Play Golf America Expo.
The special Honda Classic kid's ticket was designed this year by Emilee Briscoe, an 11-year-old fifth grader from Timber Trace Elementary. Her design featured the excitement of The Honda Classic through a golf ball soaring into the sky on fire.
Her winning artwork emerged from more than 100 entries throughout the Palm Beach County School system, a contest administered through their art classes, physical education classes and the First Tee National School Program.
"She's a very meticulous student and she did a great job of capturing the depth of a golf course with the big arc of the ball and foreground, middle ground and background which allowed her to achieve depth in her artwork, said Elaine Morrison, Briscoe's art teacher at Timber Trace. "I love these contests where they go though the process of being creative. They apply all the knowledge they have toward trying to produce a specific result. I was thrilled to death with what she achieved."
Students submitted an 8.5" X 11" art piece with the theme of the excitement and fun of The Honda Classic and/or playing golf with friends and family.
Kids, with ages 15 and under admitted free, will receive a ticket upon entrance into the tournament.
The 2011 edition of The Honda Classic will be played February 28-March 6 at PGA National Resort & Spa. The tournament, Palm Beach County's largest sporting event, awarded more than $1 million to area children's charities in 2010.
Individual daily tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 (Tuesday), $25 (Wednesday), $30 (Thursday and Friday) or $40 (Saturday and Sunday). Tickets are $5 more at the gate. A Classic Value Pack good for the entire week is $95. All ticket proceeds go directly to South Florida Children's Charities through the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation
