Another Wet Start

Senior Legends team event washed out

Event reduced to 36 holes

ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida (March 30) -- Heavy rain washed out play Friday in the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf team tournament. Because all of the teams in the Legends and Legendary divisions did not complete nine holes, the entire round was canceled and the event was reduced to 36 holes.

About 1.5 inches of rain fell on the course in 45 minutes, forcing the suspension of play at 1:22 p.m. Play was called off for the day shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Bob Lunn and Calvin Peete had the lead 4 under through nine holes on The King & The Bear Course at the World Golf Village. Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, the designers of The King & The Bear Course, were 1 under through five holes.

In the Demaret division for players 70 and over, Don January and Gene Littler were 3 under through 14 holes. Because all teams in the Demaret completed nine holes, that division will keep its scores and resume today.
