While Arnold Palmer christened his newest creation, the Palmer Course at La Cantera, in Texas, remarks he made about a possible end to the club controversy surrounding the Callaway ERC II driver became front and center news. The King was quoted as saying, “The ERC II will be a club you'll be carrying in your bag -- legally -- very, very soon.” Palmer continued, “If players can use clubs and have more fun, I'm all for it. In 90 percent of the world, it's a legal club. Talks are ongoing and I've been involved in those talks (between the R &A; and USGA).”
The prognostication, specifically its timing, that Palmer made over the possible conclusion between the discrepancy that exist with the USGA and the R&A; in equipment-testing standards appears to be short lived. “We recognize that it is in the best interests to have one set of rules and we have had some discussions with the R&A; and plan to have more. However, the reality is there is no imminent solution between the USGA and the R&A; towards the spring like effect in golf equipment,” David Fay, executive director for the USGA, remarked to Web Street.
