Honda Classic makes record charity distribution

The Honda Classic, Broward County’s largest sporting event, awarded a record $651,562 to Broward children’s charities in 2000, allowing the tournament to surpass the $10 million mark in charitable contributions.

The charity disbursement was the continuation of record performances for the tournament, which has managed to exceed the previous year’s contribution for five straight years.

The Classic awarded $366,143 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, the largest beneficiary of the event.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County received $110,569.

The continuing success of the The Honda Classic is a byproduct of the tournament’s partnership with American

Honda, the City of Coral Springs and the PGA TOUR as well as the support from the local community.

"The one constant of our event is our commitment to raising money for the children of Broward County," Honda Classic Executive Director Cliff Danley said. "Our accomplishments are made even more special by the relationship we share with our charities, who make the tournament work because of the services which they provide us each year."

Tickets and Sponsorship Packages for the 2001 Honda Classic are available by calling the tournament office at 954-346-4000. A weekly badge is $45.
