Valhalla Possible Senior PGA Site

Louisville mayor wants tourney
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 17) -- The PGA of America is considering Valhalla Golf Club as the site for a Senior PGA Championship within the next four years, chief executive officer Jim Awtrey said.

The site of this week's PGA Championship was also slated to host the tournament in 2004. But the PGA announced in January it was moving that tournament to the new Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. Valhalla is still scheduled to host the 2007 Ryder Cup matches, but Louisville mayor Dave Armstrong said the city wants to host another tournament before that.

"We want it," Armstrong said. "It's an opportunity to fill that gap. you can't just leave 2000 and come up for the Ryder Cup in 2007 and expect it to be the same momentum."
