SCHEDULE OF PLAY: The championship will be decided by strokes over four rounds of 18 holes in accordance with the Rules of Golf, as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and with the local rules approved by the Championship Committee.

In the event of a tie after four rounds, the winner will be decided by a playoff by strokes over the 1st, 2nd, 17th and 18th holes.

The player with the lowest aggregate score over the four extra holes will be declared the winner.

If the players are still tied having played these four holes, sudden death will be played immediately over the 1st and 18th holes until a winner emerges.

EXEMPTIONS FROM REGIONAL AND FINAL QUALIFYING:

  • First 15 and anyone tying for 15th place in the 1999 Open Championship.
  • The Open Champions 1990-1999.
  • Past Open Champions who are under the age of 65 on July 23, 2000 and not otherwise exempt.
  • The first 50 players on the Official Golf World Ranking as at June 1, 2000.
  • First 20 in the Official Money List of the PGA European Tour for 1999.
  • The Volvo PGA Champions for 1997-2000.
  • First 5 and anyone tying for 5th place, who are not otherwise exempt, in the top 20 of the Official Money List of the PGA European Tour for 2000 as at June 1.
  • First 5 and anyone tying for 5th place, who are not otherwise exempt, in the top 20 of a cumulative money list taken from all official PGA European Tour events from the Volvo PGA Championship up to and including the Standard Life Loch Lomond.
  • The US Open Champions for 1991-2000.
  • The US Masters Champions for 1996-2000.
  • The USPGA Champions for 1995-1999.
  • The USPGA Players Champions for 1997-2000.
  • First 21 on the Official Money List of the USPGA Tour for 1999.
  • First 5 and anyone tying for 5th place who are not otherwise exempt, in the top 20 of the Official Points Standing of the USPGA Tour for 2000 as at June 1.
  • First 5 and anyone tying for 5th place, who are not otherwise exempt, in the top 20 of a cumulative money list taken from the Players Championship and the five USPGA Tour events leading up to and including the Canon Greater Hartford Open.
  • Playing members of the 1999 Ryder Cup teams.
  • The Canadian Open Champion for 1999.
  • The Japan Open Champion for 1999.
  • First place on the Asian PGA Davidoff Tour for 1999.
  • First 3 and anyone tying for 3rd place on the Tour of Australasia for 1999/2000.
  • First 3 and anyone tying for 3rd place on the Japan Golf Tour for 1999.
  • First 2 and anyone tying for 2nd place on the Southern Africa PGA Tour for 1999/2000.
  • The leading player, not otherwise exempt, in the 2000 Mizuno Open.
  • First 4 and anyone tying for 4th place, who are not otherwise exempt having applied above, in the top 20 of a cumulative money list taken from all official Japan Golf Tour events from the Japan PGA Championship up to and including the Mizuno Open.
  • The Senior British Open Champion for 1999.
  • Amateurs: The Amateur Champion for 2000, the USA Amateur Champion for 1999 and the European Individual Amateur Champion for 1999.
