Tewell runs away at Tradition
Updated: 4/16/01
Doug Tewell believes in holding a lead, not sitting on one.

He demonstrated the difference Sunday, shooting a tournament-record 10-under 62 in the final round of the Countrywide Tradition to win by nine strokes over Mike McCullough and become the event's second wire-to-wire leader in 13 years.

McCullough and Larry Nelson had disastrous starts early in the round.

Final Third Round Update

After a disappointing bunker shot, resulting in a bogey on the 18th, Doug Tewell dropped to 13-under-par, two shots ahead of Mike McCullough and Larry Nelson at 11-under.

Mike McCullough is the only player in the field with three rounds in the 60s. He now has run off eight straight sub-par rounds and six straight scores in the 60s.

Tournament Update as of 3:30 pm PT

Tewell has regained his lead but this time by two-strokes and two to play. On the thirteenth, Tewell missed an easy five-footer just before a swarm of bees hovered the green, forcing everyone to remain still until they passed. Tewell then redeemed himself by sinking a 20-foot birdie putt on the fourteenth, moving him to 10-under-par.

North and Colbert shot a 7-under 65 in windy conditions for a 20-under 124 total in the best-ball tournament on The King & The Bear course at the World Golf Village.

Colbert and North in familiar position in Florida
Updated: 3/31/01
Defending champions Jim Colbert and Andy North grabbed a three-shot lead at 13-under par after Saturday's first round of the Legends of Golf at World Golf Village in Florida.
The duo's better-ball score of 59, which matched their opening round from last year's event, was one shot off the 18-hole tournament record set by the team of Al Geiberger and Harold Henning in 1991.

Senior Legends team event washed out
Updated: 3/30/01
Heavy rain washed out play Friday in the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf team tournament. Because all of the teams in the Legends and Legendary divisions did not complete nine holes, the entire round was canceled and the event was reduced to 36 holes.

About 1.5 inches of rain fell on the course in 45 minutes, forcing the suspension of play at 1:22 p.m. Play was called off for the day shortly before 4:30 p.m.
