Trio tied for lead at Vantage

Bob Dickson recently sent in his application for the Senior PGA Tour qualifying school. That's an indictment of his game this year and not necessarily his chances of winning the Vantage Championship.

Dickson, who has no top-10 finishes on the 50-and-over circuit this season and appears headed back to Q-school for the fifth time, shot a 5-under 65 Friday to share the first-round lead with little-known Dean Overturf and Isao Aoki.

Full Nelson Applied at FleetBoston

Larry Nelson pulled away on the back nine Sunday to beat Jim Thorpe by four strokes at the FleetBoston Classic for his third Senior PGA Tour victory of the year.

Nelson's 6-under 66, bolstered by four late birdies, gave him a 54-hole total of 13-under 203 and the $195,000 first prize.

Dougherty Plays Final 40 Holes Bogey-Free

PGA TOUR (Aug. 6) -- Ed Dougherty shot a 6-under 66 and claimed his first Senior Tour victory with a two-stroke win Sunday at the Coldwell Banker Burnet Classic.

Dougherty, a four-time runnerup in 1999, entered the tournament ranked 33rd on the Senior money list with no top-six finishes this year.
