Masters Insider
Updated: 04/03/01
(April 3) -- Tiger's right. Slump's over. And now that the Masters is here, can anybody prevent T-Dub from going four straight in the majors? The answer here is no way, unless it's Tiger Woods beating Tiger Woods the way Tiger Woods beat Tiger Woods in 2000.

Since winning by a dozen in 1997, Woods has finished T-8, T-15 and 5th on a course that supposedly has his name written on it.

Dusted in the Wind
Updated: 04/02/01
(April 2) -- It's easy to say when you are cozied-up in front of a TV and not hunkered down inside a windbreaker trying to keep warm, but it sure is fun now and then to watch the best golfers in the world battle nature. The 30 mile-per-hour wind threw shots all over the place at TPC at Sugarloaf on Sunday in the BellSouth Classic and dried the greens to warp speed. As if that weren't bad enough, they had to play 36 holes because of Thursday's washout and had to race to get in before dark -- something that would have been impossible last week without daylight savings time.

Great Scott
Updated: 04/01/01
Scott McCarron survived the wind in the BellSouth Classic. Everyone else was blown away.

McCarron managed to shoot 1-over par during a two-round, 36-hole marathon Sunday, good enough for a three-stroke victory and his first triumph on the PGA Tour since 1997.

His last win also came in the BellSouth Classic, the tournament's first year at the TPC at Sugarloaf.

DiMarco and McCarron share lead in Georgia
Updated: 03/31/01
Saturday's Round: Chris DiMarco and Scott McCarron each posted five-under 67s on Saturday to share the lead halfway through the BellSouth Classic at nine-under-par 135. The duo has a one-shot edge over defending champion Phil Mickelson.

Due to Thursday's first round being washed away by rain, officials have decided that the final two rounds will take place on Sunday with players who qualified for the weekend playing 36 holes. The last time the PGA Tour had a 36-hole finish was the B.C. Open in 1999.

Waterworld at BellSouth Classic
Updated: 03/30/01
The final warmup for the Masters started as a cold, soggy mess. But the sun finally came out Friday at the BellSouth Classic.

Delayed a day by drenching rain, the tournament began at the waterlogged TPC at Sugarloaf, with temperatures warming into the 60s as the clouds parted.

The forecast raised the possibility of more storms, prompting some golfers to consider dropping out to concentrate on Augusta National rather than endure a tedious weekend -- and possibly beyond -- of waiting out the weather.

Wet and worried at the Bell South Classic
Updated: 03/29/01
Dennis Paulson sat in the warmth of the clubhouse, pondering just how long he'll hang around for the cold, rainy BellSouth Classic.

He didn't get to play even one hole Thursday before strong showers postponed the first round at the TPC at Sugarloaf, site of the last tuneup before next week's Masters.

A poor forecast raised the possibility of top golfers dropping out so they could concentrate on Augusta National...

Tour Insider
Updated: 03/28/01
(March 27) -- There seems to be more post-Players Championship buzz about the way Tiger Woods smoked NBC's Jimmy Roberts on Monday than the way he stroked putts coming down the stretch at the TPC-Sawgrass.

This Week in Golf
Updated: 03/28/01
I guess Tiger Woods just got tired of being asked about his slump. Nothing else has changed much. Winning the Players' Championship by two over Vijay Singh hasn't made him any more of a favorite than he already was going into the Masters.

All it did was plug one of the last holes on his resume. Now, he's won all of the real majors, plus the one pretend one as well.
