What are the Odds?

Tuesday from Augusta
Updated: 04/04/01
AUGUSTA, Ga. (April 3) -- Every scribe and golf fanatic seems to have an opinion on Tiger Woods’ quest for a fourth consecutive major championship and whether it should be considered a true golf Grand Slam. But in all of our haste to voice our opinions, we forgot to ask the man himself what he thought of his quest for four straight majors and were it should stand in the grand history of the game.

"It’s harder to accomplish a Grand Slam in one year," Woods said in his pre-tournament press conference Tuesday.

One of these five players will win the Masters ...

1. Tiger Woods
Duh. It was probably more surprising that Woods didn't win at Augusta last year than him winning the three other majors in succession. This place was built for his game, and he should retire with six or seven green jackets.

Be forewarned, though. Woods is on a two-tournament winning streak, but his golf has been streaky.

Ticket Masters

The growling voice of the man from the web site sounded like it was coming from a back room, a smoky back room. It was easy to imagine him with a cigar in one hand, a pocket full of $100 bills and tickets to 'N Sync concerts, NCAA regional finals and The Lion King fanned out on a card table in front of him.

As the conversation continued, it was also clear he could supply a Masters badge. "Eleven...seven," he said, as in Eleven Thousand, Seven Hundred Dollars, Cash American.
