Same old Singh
Updated: 04/14/01
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (April 14) -- Vijay Singh again left himself in position for a victory, shooting a 4-under 67 Saturday for a two-stroke lead over Billy Mayfair and Jose Coceres at the WorldCom Classic.

Singh is near the front about every week -- he's third on the money list -- but hasn't won on the PGA Tour this year. He was runner-up at The Players Championship and at Pebble Beach.

This, though, is the first time at a 2001 tour event that he'll take the lead into the final round.

Tom terrific
Updated: 04/13/01
Tom Lehman, chasing his first victory in more than a year, used accurate irons to shoot a 4-under 67 Friday for a one-stroke lead over Vijay Singh, Billy Andrade and Billy Mayfair at the WorldCom Classic.

Lehman said this week conditions here were perfect for scoring -- then proved himself correct by landing iron after iron near the pins at Harbour Town Golf Links.

The highlight was a 220-yard 4-iron on the par-5 second hole that settled a foot away for eagle. After a birdie at No. 5, Lehman hit a 9-iron approach on the next hole that left him a tap-in birdie and the lead at 10-under 132 after two rounds.

Their Own Worst Enemy
Updated: 04/09/01
AUGUSTA, Ga. (April 8) – It’s hard to think of golf as a tough profession, but for Phil Mickelson and David Duval, getting up to go to work Monday morning is getting more and more difficult.

Both have flirted with their initial breakthrough major championship, only to have some destiny’s child sink a miraculous putt or they themselves make the crucial mistake.

On Sunday at the Masters, they were both guilty of the latter.

Slam or not, Tiger Woods was simply grand.

With a heart-stopper at Augusta National, Tiger Woods claimed the greatest feat in modern golf Sunday by winning the Masters, giving him a clean sweep of the four professional majors in a span of 294 days.

He punctuated it with an 18-foot birdie, raising both arms in triumph as a breathless gallery roared its approval.
