2001: An LPGA odyssey
Updated: 10/05/00
The LPGA announced its schedule for 2001 last week--most of it anyway--and, lo and behold, after a week of denying it had made up its mind (The Bunker, Sept. 29), there was the Weetabix Women's British Open penciled in as the fourth major championship, replacing the du Maurier Classic.

Kean wins Rail Classic
Updated: 09/07/00
LPGA: SPRINGFIELD, ILL.--It's hard to say what excited Laurel Kean more: becoming the first Monday qualifier ever to win an LPGA event, or knowing her victory at the State Farm Rail Classic means she won't have to return to Qualifying School this fall.

"One trip I'm not making this year is to Daytona Beach," said Kean, 37, who fired rounds of 66-66-66 to finish at 18-under 198, one shot shy of the LPGA's 54-hole record (set by Pat Bradley at the 1991 Rail and tied by Annika Sorenstam earlier this year at the Firstar LPGA Classic). "I'll play the Tournament of Champions the same week as Q School."
