PGA TOUR WIVES CLASSIC JOINS THE HONDA CLASSIC SCHEDULE
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – The PGA TOUR Wives Golf Classic, a fundraising event by the significant others of some of the biggest names in golf that formerly was played in Phoenix, will now be hosted by The Honda Classic on Tuesday of tournament week.
The nine-hole shootout will take place February 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. on PGA National’s Haig Course. A Dinner/Reception will follow.
The caddies will get the day off and PGA TOUR pros will carry the bag, rake bunkers and tend the flags for their wives. The PGA TOUR and Sentient Jet are the presenting sponsors.
“We are very excited that the wives have chosen The Honda Classic as the host tournament for their great event,” Honda Classic Executive Director Kenneth R. Kennerly said. “We are going to do as much as we can to help them raise as much money as possible. For example, sponsors will get tickets to The Honda Classic and preferred parking passes.”
As the world’s greatest players go to work each week, the PGA TOUR Wives Association makes a significant impact on the communities they visit. Their objective: To provide support for needy children and their families through a variety of volunteer and fundraising activities conducted during TOUR events. Whether it’s working side-by-side with Habitat For Humanity building houses in New Orleans, hosting a Taste of the Tour fundraiser in Las Vegas, drawing attention to the Greater Boston Food Bank by sorting more than 6,500 pounds of food to those in need or playing golf in Palm Beach Gardens, the wives commitment to giving back leaves an impression long after tournaments are over.
The proceeds from the PGA TOUR Wives Golf Classic will go to charities designated by The Honda Classic and the PGA TOUR Wives Association. Anyone interested in sponsorship information can call Joanie Connors at 561-799-4619.
The Honda Classic, Palm Beach County’s largest sporting event, awarded more than $505,000 to area children’s charities in 2007, allowing the tournament to surpass the $14 million mark in charitable contributions during American Honda’s 26-year tenure as title sponsor.
