HONDA CLASSIC TO ADD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – As part of its commitment to the youth of South Florida, the Honda Classic will play host to a Junior tournament for young players December 15-16 at PGA National’s Haig Course.

The Honda Classic Junior Championship will give all young players in Florida an opportunity to test their skills in a competitive environment and will enhance their connection to the professional tournament.

“Junior Golf is on the rise and we believe strongly in promoting the game to the kids,” Honda Classic Executive Director Kenneth R. Kennerly said. “The Honda Classic Junior Championship will offer all kids/junior golfers the opportunity to play in this Honda Classic affiliated event and become a part of a PGA TOUR event two months prior to the actual tournament. It’s a continuation of our efforts to give back to the game and help promote its growth.”

Tournament participants will play a practice round the afternoon of December 15th and tournament rounds will begin at 8 a.m. on December 16th.

Players over the age of 12 will play 18 holes broken into age groups of U18, U16, and U14. The U12, U10 and U8 age groups will compete over nine holes.

The entry fee is $150, but players who want to skip a practice round may enter for $125. Kids will receive a Honda Classic junior package when they check in. PGA National Resort & Spa has also established a $99 per night rate for participants in the tournament.

Interested players can register at www.thehondaclassic.com or by calling 561-799-2747.

The Honda Classic, Palm Beach County’s largest sporting event, awarded more than $505,000 to area children’s charities in 2007, allowing the tournament to surpass the $14 million mark in charitable contributions during American Honda’s 36-year tenure as title sponsor.

The 2008 Honda Classic will be played February 25-March 2.
